Top Tips To Help You Select the Right Car
Top Tips To Help You Select the Right Car

Whether you are buying your first car or your fiftieth car there are several things you need to think about to ensure that you choose the right vehicle and that you can enjoy years of motoring happiness. One of the best ways in which to make your final decision is to read car reviews online for expert opinions and in–depth analysis. However, to start the process you need to narrow down your list of potentials to just a few contenders.

Firstly you need to think about budget. Do bear in mind that this must not only include the cost of the car but a number of extras. Insurance is a major annual outlay that must be taken into account and which is affected by your vehicle of choice, as well as your age and driving history. Servicing and the cost of parts will play a significant role in your budget, as will the price of petrol or diesel in relation to the fuel consumption figures for your car. For example, if you pay £3000 for a ten year old sporty model with a large engine it could cost you far more to run than a five year old family hatchback bought for £4000 because fuel economy and the cost of maintenance will invariably be higher on prestige vehicles.

In addition to budgeting for your new car, you need to think about your actual needs. There is no point opting for that two door supermini if you are going to be bundling three children and all your camping gear in the back. In this case, a larger hatchback, estate car or even a people carrier is likely to be more appropriate. First time drivers who want to enjoy their new found freedom are better suited to small cars which closely match the type of vehicle in which they will have learnt to drive. This will help instil confidence and reduce the chance of any accidental scrapes and bumps. It will also help to mitigate the extremely high insurance premiums associated with new drivers.

All sorts of other considerations will emerge when scanning through the various vehicles available to you, from the luggage space and seating arrangements to the market price and the depreciation in value you should expect. It can be easy to dismiss some of the less obvious aspects as irrelevant when you choose, but these little things can all too easily come back to haunt you, so be as thorough as possible – including the boring factors – to ensure that you get long–term value. This is why checking a car’s service history, particularly when buying from a private seller, is a must.

Of course there are some rather more fun elements of car buying, once you have narrowed your choice to a set of viable options. From colour and upholstery through to in–car entertainment in a world of iPods and smartphones where Bluetooth connectivity or at least an auxiliary audio input can make or break a model, the choices are endless and are a matter of personal preference.
