The Real Cost of Fleet Driver Traffic Accidents
Underline heading of The Real Cost of Fleet Driver Traffic Accidents

Losing an integral member of your workforce, even for a short period of time, is something that no one thinks about, that is until it happens. By that time, when you are dealing with all the fall–out from such an event, it is not the best occasion to think about reducing occupational road risk by setting up a programme of Fleet Driver Training.

Setting aside your legal obligations in terms of Health and Safety for a moment, what effect would there be on your organisation if just one of your team was forced out of work, temporarily or otherwise, through injury sustained in a Road Traffic Collision? How difficult would it be to replace a person who knows their job inside out, who is well–trained within their role, and who operates at a high level of performance?

Think about how you would compensate for that situation, and what it could cost you in terms of additional man–hours, financial loss and the overall well–being of your business — all through one driver related incident. That cost will be considerably less than the price of the training that could have prevented that Road Traffic Collision.

You Can Reduce Occupational Road Risk

The transportation of goods and people is an essential part of everyday life. Even in this high–tech modern age it is still necessary or people to get from one place to another in connection with work related activities. This means there are people who spend nearly all their working life driving on the road, and due to the time they spend driving, they will statistically be a higher level of occupational road risk.

Of course it is true that you can never completely guard against occupational road risk, but can only try to manage it to a low level. Road Traffic Collisions happen every day and the blame for such an incident can often be with someone else. To substantially reduce occupational road risk does count on you doing something proactive — like building putting your drivers through a fleet driver training course and getting in place a Driver Safety at Work Policy.

Any driver of a motor vehicle on a road has ultimate responsibility to conduct themselves in a manner so as to ensure their own Health and Safety. However, without effective Fleet Driver Training your people may not be equipped with the types of skills required to reduce their occupational road risk and so will b evulnerable to being involved in a road traffic collision.

Never take the possession of a full driving licence as a sign of driver competency, as that will very rarely be true. Anyone who lives in the real world will know that basic DSA Driving Tuition within the UK is very poor quality, and can therefore never be enough to minimise occupational road risk.

Identifying Occupational Road Risk

Of course, senning your people on a fleet driver training course is all–important, as fleet driver training courses teach defensive driving techniques and that will help your drivers develop the necessary road skills. However, you really need to go that extra mile and look at driver habit and culture within your fleet. Very often it is discovered there are certain negative influences, peer pressures that may be present and which do not enhance the prospects of managing occupational road risk within your organisation.

Fleet Driver Training Courses that provide good quality defensive driving skills will be the most effective way of minimising occupational road risk within your company and is a responsible way of taking care of the Health and Safety of employees in the Workplace. This has to be of paramount importance, and as a priority you will be anxious to ensure that all members of your vehicle driving staff can have access to just the right level of fleet driver training to they can develop their defensive driving skills. That is why good quality fleet driver training represents such good sense, and makes for such a sound investment in people — an investment in your people.
